BU students working long hours off-campus face anxiety, stress

When Jessica Frith is awake until 5 a.m., an experience college students know well, she isn’t cramming for a test or getting back from a night out. She’s at home in bed watching Netflix to “decompress” after a nine-hour shift, attempting to ignore stressors that might be an overdue paper, an upset coworker or the Uber home that cost the same amount she made in an hour.

At the very end of Brookline Village, a little studio sits on White Place near Washington Street. The cottage-like building reverberates with the sounds of the D train passing underneath, the frequent ringing telephone and the clicks from a camera’s shutter as the studio’s owner snaps portraits to add to her significant portfolio.


Empowering girls to change the narrative

When Erin Kinney decided to teach a course on media literacy, she knew she wanted to focus on helping middle-school girls.

“When girls hit this age range, their self-esteem drops,” Kinney, manager of engagement at Brookline Interactive Group, said. “Some messages in the media play a role.”



Brookline Corey Hill Day: A neighborhood cleanup that’s one big party

More than 100 Brookline residents gathered on Sunday to drink cider, play games and plant flowers as part of the first annual Corey Hill Day on Summit Avenue.

Dozens of children ran around the playground while parents and residents chatted and ate snacks. Others moved their feet to a live band, “Happy Dance.” But event organizers said the gathering at Corey Hill Park was more than a block party.
